We had a great time at the BBQ yesterday. Tracie and John were so sweet to invite us to their annual cook off. Also exciting-Rob's pulled pork won the meat competition and I came in second with my melon salad!! The pork was delicious and the sauce he made to go with it was really good (though the house smelled alot like vinegar...) Maggie had a great time playing with Cayden and climbing on his little rocking chair. We had some friends over for brunch this morning and are going to watch the State game and take a walk a little later. Hope you all had a great weekend!!

Go STATE!
Have you been watching the tourney? Last night MSU beat Kansas in a great game! Rob and I were on the edge of our seats and so excited when we won. Maggie was not awake for all the excitement but woke up this morning to find a BALL PIT in the living room-so fun!! I went to the Mommy rummage sale at church with some friends and we found some great stuff. We also went for margaritas afterwards- more fun!! I am so excited to live in a place where we can actually go out! I still feel like we just moved here but we somehow seem to have found enough to do where I actually feel busy every week. We are headed to a BBQ cook off this afternoon and Rob us busy working on his pork shoulder as I speak. I got it from a butcher yesterday and am interested to see if the quality is any better than what we usually buy at the commissary. I sure hope so b/c it was definitely more expensive. Today officially starts the Cherry Blossom Festival here in DC. Peak flower days are 1-4 April and I am so excited to check them out. Happy Weekend and GO STATE!!

I just have to say...
I was in Gymboree today looking for a swimsuit for Maggie. They have super cute clothes but the prices add up quickly! I love how Jon and Kate can dress all of their children in Gymboree fashions. Pretty good for a family where neither parent works!! How can I get a show on TLC?

A Step in the Right Direction
Guess what? While we were making dinner last night Rob and I saw Maggie take her first step! I know as soon as she is walking I will be wishing for the old days but it was so exciting to see her take that first tiny step. I tell Rob sometimes that I miss the tiny baby she once was but I am SO excited to be able to watch this little girl grow up. Motherhood gets better every single day!!

Update
The Doctor just called to see how Maggie is doing. I guess he (maybe) believed me after all. Shocking!
Chicken Pox
On Friday I noticed Maggie had a slight fever and was pretty sleepy. At first I just assumed it was more teeth and gave her some icies to chew on and a few extra snuggles. By the time Rob got home from work I was convinced otherwise. She had a couple of spots on her face and tummy. I thought I might be imagining it but Rob confirmed my suspicion. I called the hospital to see if we needed to bring her in and the Doctor on call basically told me that it was impossible for her to have the chicken pox. I calmly told him that she had been vaccinated in the past month and that the immunization clinic sent us home with a form saying it was unlikely but possible to develop a mild case of the pox from the vaccine. Again he said he did not understand how she could have it...thank you Dr! By Saturday morning there were more spots! She is a little more fussy than usual and her appetite has decreased a lot but other than that she seems to be feeling ok.
On Saturday morning I went to Maryland with my new friend Tracie to a Tot Swap and out for lunch. It was nice to get out for a few hours, especially knowing we would be confined to the house for a least a week. I was even signed up for AFTB but will have to postpone.
This is just another one of those times that I remember what Sally always said. Always trust your instinct as a parent-even if the Dr's tell you that you are crazy! Mommy knows best!

Birthday Party
We celebrated Maggie's first birthday on Sunday with Dad, Caeli, Bridget and Claire, Julie, COL P and the kids and Amanda, TJ and the boys. It was so much fun! It was great to fill the house with familiar faces and Maggie loved that there were so many kids to play with. The cake was a hit and I even have an order for Henry's birthday (well, maybe). Maggie loved all of her gifts and didn't mind being passed around all day. Claire is still here until tomorrow when she heads back to NYC to finish her Spring Break with Bridget. It was the most beautiful day we have had since moving here, so we visited Mount Vernon this morning. We also took Maggie for her first professional photos after her nap. What an adventure and what a great weekend!!

Happy Birthday Baby! (3 of 3)
Watching Daddy shovel the snow

Maggie got a snow day for her birthday! We woke up to about 8 inches with snow still falling. As soon as she wakes up from her nap we are headed out for an adventure at the playground! Rob and I gave her the Wheely Bug on Friday so we could enjoy it with her all weekend. It was definitely the right choice and she wants to play with it all day long. The Crowes give it 5 out of 5 stars! Her party is this weekend and we are so excited to have friends and family visit! It really is hard to believe that she is celebrating her first birthday. I had a hard time falling asleep last night just thinking about the day/night she was born. Rob and I feel so lucky to be her parents and can't wait to see what life will bring to this beautiful little girl. Happy Birthday Baby!
First Haircut (part 2 of 3)
This is why we needed to get a haircut...
Watching Barney on TV
Checking out Mr. Le
Watching Barney on TV
Checking out Mr. Le
On Sunday we took Maggie to get her first haircut! Rob was a little nervous especially because the kids "salon" was a little scary but I figured that they deal with little ones all day long and it would be the most painless way to go. Mr. Le did a great job and it took about 4 minutes!! We also stopped off at Home Depot on the way home so Rob could pick up his...new grill! Anyone who knows us understands how big a deal this was. After 5 years he finally moved up from the mini Weber. Now we can actually have people over for dinner and will be able to make something besides the pork shoulder (though the pork shoulder is AWESOME!)
DC with Aunt Erin (Part 1 of 3 of the weekend in review)
I'm not really sure why but when I write a new post it only lets me add 5 photos at a time. So, this post will be a series of sorts! First of all a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Margaret Patricia and Dr. Seuss! More on that in a minute. Aunt Erin came down from Philly this weekend to celebrate Maggie's birthday a little early. We met her downtown and took Maggie to the Aquarium in DC. We heard it isn't as great as the one in Baltimore but for her first time it was perfect! Not too big or expensive and just enough for her to see without getting crabby. She especially liked the bright colored fish and the alligator. The sea turtle was also so cool!
